When they got back to the house it was clear that Ricco would sleep away most of the weekend. It worried Lea that he was so tired. She also noticed bruises and scrapes on his back and arms. She pointed them out as they went to bed.

“That’s from work,” he said when Lea lightly touched large hematoma on his lower back. “There are a lot of fight scenes in the new season.”

“Don’t you have stuntmen for that?”

“His bruises are worse.” He pressed on a large purple patch above his elbow. “That must be the pills, too. I never used to bruise like that. Those fucking meds.” He sighed, but added quickly, “But they work for my head, so I’ll keep taking them, don’t worry.”

He crawled under the covers and Lea joined him, scooting close. Ricco turned to face her. “It’s a killer, working when I feel like shit. I just hope this’ll get better soon.”

Lea had never seen him looking so exhausted. Even when he'd been ill he'd hardly looked worse She took his hands. "Let's think about it this weekend. Maybe you need a dose adjustment or a different brand. Sometimes that helps, even when the ingredients are the same. It should make no difference, but for some patients it does." He nodded, but his eyes were drifting closed. Lea whispered, "Go to sleep now, darling."

"Hmm." His breathing became deep and regular, and Lea watched him for a while, loving him very much at that moment. How sweet he looks. Wish I could make this damn migraine disappear. He doesn’t deserve this shit.

Saturday was lazy, but not unpleasant. Lea woke early but left Ricco to sleep. There was nothing they needed to do today, and her priority would be for him to get the rest his body demanded. By the time he came ambling into the living room in nothing but his boxer shorts Lea was on her second coffee and halfway through an article in the latest Lancet.

“How’re you feeling?” Lea let the magazine drop into her lap.

“I’m are all stiff and sore. I hadn’t even noticed how much this week hurt.”

“C’mere.” Lea patted the sofa next to her, and Ricco flopped down, then took the coffee mug out of her hand.

“Hey, make your own!”

“You insist I take those stupid pills, least you can do is let me drink your coffee.”

“Bully,” she said affectionately.

He stuck his tongue out at her then finished the coffee in two large gulps. Lea pretended to grab for it, and they tussled for a moment until they somehow ended up lying snuggled into each other on the sofa. Ricco's gaze was full of love as he studied her face, his hand coming up to play with her hair. "I love you, baby girl," he whispered. "Sorry we're boring again."

“Not boring, honey.” Lea hugged him close. “This is nice. You know I’m not much of a people person. Just you and me is pretty perfect, actually.”

He hid his face against her shoulder and when Lea stroked his back he hummed softly.
